Congratulations to the players who have been selected for the 2013 U12 & U14 Oregon Girls Youth Lacrosse Association (OGYLA) Select Program!

2013 marks the first year that the OGYLA has offered a select program for the top players in the U-12 and U-14 age bands.  To help this new initiative get off the ground, the OGYLA Board of Directors has contracted with Lacrosse Northwest (LaxNW) to run the day to day operations and provide coaches for OGYLA Select in 2013 and 2014.

Players in the programs were selected through the players' coaches' nominations with the guidance of Lacrosse Northwest.

Lacrosse Northwest is thrilled to be partnering with OGYLA on this program.

Note Regarding Portland vs Breakaway Rivalry Game May 5:  The Portland Purple Womens Lacrosse Team and the Seattle Breakaway Women's Lacrosse Team have become long-time rivals as the two top teams in the Pacific Northwest Women's Lacrosse League (PNWLL).

Players from these teams are former collegiate DI, DII, DIII lacrosse players who demonstrate lacrosse at a very high level.  Breakaway reigns as the league champions for the last three years as Portland maintains its best roster ever striving to win the 2013 title.  Portland last won the title over Breakaway in 2009 on their home turf.  Come out on May 5 to see if this is their year.

Other Playing Opportunity
June 23:
We are working to bring Washington Teams to the Portland Metro area to play June 23.   This is in addition to the Spring Select program so players have an opportunity to play out of state teams once those teams are done with their season and can travel.  There will be a small additional cost to parents/players to cover the field, coaching, and umpire fees for that day.

OGYLA U14 Select

U14 OGYLA Select - (7/8)

OGYLA Select Objectives:  Teach and develop a high level of team work, sportsmanship, stick skills, and strategy learning to use both halves of the player (right/left).  Defense, amongst other important "ingredients" for the well rounded player/team, will be a strong focus.

Player Expectations:  Players must attend both their club team and select practices. Players should be prepared for high intensity/running training sessions and we will ask the girls to be focused, mentally present and at their best during all training sessions.

Cost:  $99 (includes 8 select practice/scrimmage dates, reversible OGYLA select jersey and t-shirt, coaches' compensation, umpires, and field costs).

Teams:

  • Four teams will be created after the April 21 practice.
  • Players should consider April 21 as though it is a tryout and bring their best "game".
  • Raters will be there to evaluate and assess the players.
  • The player ratings will be used to place players on teams that are as even as possible based on skill level and position.
  • We will do our best to keep at least two players from the same program together for carpooling.  We cannot guarantee all players from the same program will be on the same team.
  • Rosters will be posted by 5:00pm the following Monday.
  • Once teams are made, follow the schedule for your specific team's practices and scrimmages.

Practices and Scrimmages:  4/21, 4/28, 5/5, 5/19, 6/2, 6/9.  Two more weekday evenings to be added the first two weeks of June.
