LaxNW to Lead First OGYLA U-12/U-14 Select Program - March 6, 2013
OGYLA U-12 and U-14 Select Program2013 marks the first year that the OGYLA has offered a Select program for the top players in the U-12 and U-14 age bands. To help this new initiative off the ground, the OGYLA Board of Directors has contracted with Lacrosse Northwest (LaxNW) to run the day to day operations and provide coaches for OGYLA Select in 2013 and 2014. To learn more about OGYLA Select, CLICK HERE download the Coaches and Parents flyer.
Selection for the OGYLA In Season Select program will be by coaches nomination. For those clubs who have more players than nominations, the OGYLA Board reserves the right to nominate additional players. See Ben Finklea for more information on this process.
- Gold: 4 nominations
- Silver: 3 nominations
- Bronze: 2 nominations
Coaches nominations will be asked for in early April so we ask that you begin talking to players and parents of those you may want to nominate as early as possible. This way we know in advance that players who have been nominated will accept the bid.
Cost will be $99 per player for the 6-8 week program and will include an OGYLA Select penny. Scholarships will be made available for those most in need (limited supply) as LaxNW is donating one scholarship per age group and the OGYLA will consider a limited number as well. Clubs are encouraged to provide assistance where able as we do not want a lack of funds to keep kids on the outside. Please email Ben Finklea if you have a player who needs to apply for a scholarship. One of the ways we are able to keep the costs for Select so low is by clubs donating turf or field time, so if able, please help out and let Ben or JEss know of the availability (Sunday afternoons are preferred)! All Select sessions will happen on Sunday and all players are REQUIRED to fully meet the practice and game schedule of their home club FIRST. Failure to do so will mean automatic dismissal from Select.
The OGYLA Select season will begin in early to mid-April and will run through to the end of the OGYLA season. Select is an attempt to help develop and raise the overall level of play in Oregon through advanced coaching and play with advanced players who are seeking additional opportunities to improve their game. The long term goal of the OGYLA is to someday be able to have each club develop their own "select" team and this is step one.....thank you for your support of this new program. We encourage your feedback as we get things underway!
