Boys Rules for Indoor - December 26, 2008
The Indoor format is meant to be Field Lacrosse in an indoor setting. RULES will follow the 2008 BOYS HIGH SCHOOL Rule Book with the following modifications.Special Technical penalties: include but not limited to: pushes near boards, helmets
off on bench, no mouth piece area shall result in 30 seconds in the penalty box.
PERSONAL PENALTIES (1-3 Minutes)
*EXCESSIVE PENALTIES: PENALTY SHOT: A Team that collects it’s 6th personal will result in a penalty shot- a free shot on the goal. (If the goalie is guilty of a personal foul then a field player may take his place if there is no other goalie suited up and ready to play-unless it is an ejection).
*FIGHTING and 4 personals is an automatic ejection from the current game and a one game suspension for the next game (Like a Red Card in soccer). Serious and multiple suspensions may result in expulsion from the league and a person may reenter with permission from Lacrosse Northwest.
Therefore gentlemen, control your sticks and your tempers.
CHECKING – Body checking is legal as long as it is in compliance with OHSLA rules. i.e. contact from the front or side, between the shoulders and the waist only, no player on the ground may be body checked.
NO BOARDING: (1-3 mins) A player may not be hit into the boards. Period. (An incidental push near the boards will result in a 30 second penalty). Any “hit” into the boards will result in a 1 minute penalty; an official may deem the hit “grievous,” or out of control, and give a 1 minute un-releasable penalty, and possibly up to 3 minutes. (If a player is running on or near the dotted line running parallel to the wall he is off limits for a body check or a push into the walls).
Checking with the stick must be in compliance with OHSLA rules. i.e. there shall be no beating of the gloved stick hand or forearm. TIP: (Poke checks and “lifts” are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED and technically are more effective when a player has 2 hands firmly on his crosse).
OFF SIDES – There are no off sides infractions in indoor lacrosse. Play is 5v5 full field.
THREE LINE PASSES: Are not allowed. A team cannot throw the ball from inside one RED line and over the next RED line- three lines. The ball will be awarded at midfield to the opposing team.
STALLING & OVER AND BACK: Just as in Basketball, once a team obtains possession of the ball it has 10 seconds to advance it across midfield into the offensive half of the field. Each team in good faith has to make an attempt to advance with the intent of scoring. The referee, at his discretion, can give advanced warning to a team who is perceived to be stalling and commence a ten second count after which the team will loose possession of the ball if a shot on goal is not taken.
TIP: If your team is winning by 6-8 or more goals then we encourage a “3 pass rule” whereas 3 passes, in rapid succession, will be made and on that 3rd pass, or after, a well placed shot is taken.
SUBSTIUTION - Substitution may be made on the fly. Players leaving the field must be between the RED Lines near the bench area; once a player has stepped into the dotted line area another player may step on to the field. Teams with too many players on the field (or players not inside the box) are in violation of the substitution rule and will receive a technical 30 second penalty.
FACE OFFS & GOALS – ONLY at start of each half or after a 1 minute penalty. After a goal the scoring team must leave the RED Zone and allow one free pass. After that they may ride.
