Please read carefully for how to become a US Lacrosse certified umpire!

Umpires for the game of women’s lacrosse become certified and maintain certification through participation in classroom training and on-field training and rating sessions. The level of certification is indicated by the rating achieved

--- Youth/ Junior Rating; Youth/ Adult Rating; Apprentice Rating; Local Rating; District Rating; National Rating; and International Rating. All Women’s Division Officials Council (WDOC) Umpires must be in "good standing" attained by paying US Lacrosse dues and Local Board dues (waived for new umpires) annually; attending all required meetings that include an annual Rules Interpretation meeting; and passing the WDOC rules test annually.

New Adult Umpire Requirements 2010

All umpires must complete the following 7 tasks, in order:

ï‚¢ Register on-line for Classroom Clinic at least three (3) business days in advance

ï‚¢ Attend Classroom Clinic Training (either Portland or Eugene option)

ï‚¢ Purchase Training materials at clinic ($35)

ï‚¢ Become a member of US Lacrosse as an Official ($50). Instructions provided at clinic.

ï‚¢ Attend All Adult Members Pre-season Business Meeting (Feb. 8)

ï‚¢ Pass Written Test (online through US Lacrosse) by Feb. 28.

ï‚¢ Attend Field Training and pass Practical Test (Mar. 6) Umpires are responsible for their own transportation to game sites and for meeting uniform requirements and are not employees. Earnings of $600.00 or more must be reported as income on your tax returns. More details covered at Pre-season Business Meeting February 8.

Women’s Lacrosse Adult New Umpire Training and Rules Education Clinics 2010

No fee to sign‐up.

• Coaches, parents, and players highly encouraged to attend. No lacrosse experience needed.

Pre‐registration REQUIRED three (3) business days in advance of event: http://www.owlua.org/.

• Fill out interest form indicating affiliation (player, coach, parent, etc.) and level of interest http://www.owlua.org/interest.php

Clinic materials (MANDATORY for New umpires) cost $35.00

• Umpire Manual, USL Rule book, Fox 40 whistle, lanyard, nylon penalty flag, warning cards

• Pay day of clinic: check (payable to OWLUA), or cash (exact change)

• Purchase on own: Collared, 1‐inch vertically striped jersey (Average cost $26.00)

Portland Clinic: Two evenings, Tue. Jan. 26 & Thu. Jan. 28. 6‐9 pm

• Check‐in starts at 5:30 pm on Tue. Jan. 26

Field Training Portion of Certification Process (for New and Apprentice umpires)

• Sat. Mar. 6. Portland‐Metro area (TBA). All day.

• Bring training materials and wear black pants, athletic footwear, and umpire jersey.

Returning Apprentice Umpires MUST attend either the Portland Clinic or Eugene Clinic.

• No fee required. Pre‐register via email. Manual available for purchase.

Returning Local Umpires MUST attend New Rules Interpretation Meeting and Clinic.

• Thu. Feb. 4. 6‐9 pm. Check‐in starts at 5:30 pm. No food provided.
